About TARGET Race Courses

This is the perfect course for Masters ski racers, strong recreational skiers who are looking for a new challenge and for ski instructors as an introduction to race training in a relaxed and supportive environment.

TARGET Race is a focused and challenging yet fun course designed to provide you with the highest level of race training available. The training aims to build the fundamental skills of each individual skier, improving your overall skiing performance to get the best turns out of your skis.

Everyone benefits from a personalised approach to their training, developing a range of skiing skills and applying those skills to racing.  The coach to trainee ratio is lower than average (the absolute max being 8 in a group).  This allows us to progress at a pace suitable to you and ensures an exceptional individual training experience.

The time on the mountain is structured to provide effective Slalom and Giant Slalom training. There is a balance of technical free skiing, skills and drill courses, and of course race courses.  We also look at every skill required by a ski racer, including starts, terrain transitions and aerodynamics.  A timing system is regularly used to record progress and simulate a race environment. Video analysis is used twice a week or more to aid your technical understanding and to be used as an ongoing learning tool as you will receive all your footage from the course.

Throughout the course there is varied and extensive off the mountain support. Sessions include sports psychology, nutrition, video analysis, ski preparation demonstrations and fitness.  Fitness is an important part of ski racing performance, we provide everyone with pre-course material on ski specific fitness so you will be in great shape for your course. We also run some sessions focused on components of fitness specific to ski racing during the course.

Race Training for Ski Instructors

The Eurotest, which is a module in the Level 4 ISTD ski instructor exam, is a challenging Giant Slalom ski race. To get to the Eurotest pass level takes dedicated race training, a real understanding of racing skills and a high level of ski specific fitness. This is quite a huge jump for someone with no previous race experience. We have designed our TARGET Race course looking at every aspect of racing skills from technique, tactics, psychology, physical preparation and race ski preparation. It is a great idea to start your race training as early as possible in your ski instructing career to start developing the racing skills required for this exam, so even if you are at Level 2, start developing your racing skills on this course. Race training is also brilliant for your fundamental skiing skills so your all round technical skiing will benefit from the course!

Hintertux is a popular ski race training destination in Austria. The TARGET coaches, Lynn and Amanda, have spent many years race training themselves and coaching in Hintertux, so they know it well. The piste staff are helpful as they love ski racing, infrastructure is excellent and the autumn snow conditions are normally superb. The higher slopes on the glacier offer a variety of terrain for skills and drills and lanes for race training courses. The accommodation in Austria is a high standard - Austrians are always very hospitable.

Saas Fee is a beautiful mountain resort in Switzerland with excellent training facilities. The glacier, where we base our training, is chosen by several World Cup and regional teams as their summer and autumn training venue. The terrain for training is varied and we are given lots of space providing both gentle and challenging pistes enabling an effective progression. The resort is quiet in November and the uplift is efficient so there are no queues. The resort is supportive and the snow is reliable and well prepared. Other sporting facilities include games halls, indoor tennis courts, swimming pool and extensive hiking tracks. For more information and to find out how to get there visit

Tignes is in France and has a glacier at over 3000m where our training will take place, guaranteeing great race training conditions. The skiing on the glacier is varied and there is normally the possibility of skiing back down to the village from the start of December as the Espace Killy ski domain opens. The Espace Killy links Tignes with Val d’Isere, offering yet more terrain options. The valley of Tignes is made up of  lots of well linked villages with great accommodation options and facilities, including an amazing indoor sports complex. For more information visit

Les Deux Alpes in France is the location for our summer race training courses. The glacier has a small variety of terrain which is mostly gentle - perfect for developing and perfecting your technical skiing skills. The uplift is efficient and there are quick turn arounds on the T-bars on the glacier. The off snow activity facilities are excellent including tennis courts, outdoor swimming pool, mountain bike tracks, archery, and hiking paths, a lot of which is included in your lift pass price.
